Added case abstracts and case translations
UNCITRAL abstracts constitute an important source of case abstracts integrated with the case presentations provided in the database. Publications A/CN..9/SER.C/ABSTRACTS/24, A/CN.9, A/CN.9/SER.C/ABSTRACTS/25, and A/CN.9/SER.C/ABSTRACTS/26, dated respectively 27 October 1999, 1 November 1999 and 3 December 1999, have enabled us to integrate an additional forty-three abstracts with our case presentations. Theses on a variety of other subjects are being added to the database.
In addition to further case presentations and law journal commentaries:
- We are entering in the database the text of Peter Schlechtriem,
Uniform Sales Law: The UN-Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of
Goods, Vienna: Manz (1986) 120 pages.
- We are also processing for publication the excellent collection of commentaries on the
CISG authored by another important Diplomatic Conference legislator, Lief Sevón of
the Court of Justice of the European Communities.
The database has as a current feature Official Commentaries on the UNIDROIT
Principles of International Commercial Contracts where provisions of the Principles
parallel those of the CISG. A special virtue of these presentations is helpful illustrative
applications, similar to those that accompany the American Restatements of Law.
A new feature we wish to add to the database is Comments and Notes on the Principles
of European Contract Law (PECL) prepared by the Commission on European Contract
Law in instances in which provisions of the PECL parallel those of the CISG. Like the
Official Commentaries to the UNIDROIT Principles, the PECL Comments contain helpful
illustrative applications. The PECL Notes contain an added feature: they help researchers
mine civil law and common law antecedents of the provisions cited.
The database is a shared endeavor. The object is to serve our profession and the world
trade community by the sharing of materials, insights and lessons learned.
