INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL ARBITRATION MOOT

General Information
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is
a competition for law students. Students from all countries are
eligible. The Moot involves a dispute arising out of a contract
of sale between two countries that are party to the United Nations
Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The
contract provides that any dispute that might arise is to be settled
by arbitration in a third country that has enacted the UNCITRAL
Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. The contract
in the Sixth Moot also provides that the arbitration is subject
to the International Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association.
Dates and location
The Problem will be sent to all registered teams on Friday, October
2, 1998. The memorandum for claimant will be due in Vienna on Monday, December
7, 1998. The memorandum for respondent will be due in Vienna, February
14, 1999. The general rounds of the oral arguments will take place
at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna (Juridicum) Saturday
through Tuesday, 26-30 March 1999. Quarter-final arguments among
the eight highest ranking teams will take place Wednesday morning,
March 31 and the semi-final arguments among the four winning teams
will take place Wednesday afternoon. The final arguments and the
awards banquet will take place Thursday, April 1, 1999.
Registration
Registration is accomplished by completion and submission of the registration form, which may be done at any time prior to the date for submission of the memorandum for claimant. Registration is confirmed by payment of the registration fee of US $500, payable by bank draft drawn
on a bank, or branch of a bank, in the United States. The registration fee must be paid prior to the date for submission of the memorandum for claimant, unless specific permission for later payment has been given by the Director of the Moot.
