The Author
Joseph Lookofsky is Professor of Law at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He received his B.A. in Economics from Lehigh University in 1967 and his J.D. from then New York University School in 1971. He was then admitted to the New York Bar and worked as a staff attorney for United Artists Corporation.
In 1973 Mr. Lookofsky married Dane and moved to Denmark where he became a consultant to Danish Advocates. He received his Danish Law degree (Candidatus Juris) from the University of Copenhagen in 1981 and joined the Law Faculty there in 1982. In 1989 - upon publication of his thesis 'Consequential Damages in Comparative Context' - he received the degree of Doctor Juris.
In addition to his regular courses in the Scandinavian law of Obligations and Comparative Commercial Law, Professor Lookofsky has taught CLE courses for the Danish Bar Association and for the Duke University Summer Institute in Transnational Law. He is Secretary General of the Danish Committee for Comparative Law (Association Internationale des Sciences Juridigues). His published works (in Danish and English) cover such topics as international contracts and sales, private international law, and international commercial arbitration.
