Partnership between IACCM and
Pace University School of Law's
Institute of International Commercial Law

The International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) and Pace Law's Institute of International Commercial Law are partnering to conduct research regarding sustainability and stabilization clauses in international contracts. This research aims to increase knowledge of the corporate response to increased demands for corporate accountability, sustainable development, and human rights concerns.

IACCM is a non-profit, membership-based association that furthers the process of contracting and relationship management in both the public and private sector. IACCM also provides a global forum for innovation and collaboration in trading relationships and practices. Projects and research conducted by IACCM utilize the unique insights of IACCM members, which include representatives from more than 2,000 public and private sector organizations, typically those with large revenues, international interests, and that deal with complex or high-risk contract relationships.

This collaborative project includes the use of surveys to gather information from corporate lawyers and contract managers on their past, current, and evolving use of sustainability and stabilization clauses in business contracts and foreign direct investment agreements. The surveys were launched to IACCM members on Monday, August 31, 2009, and are open to other corporate lawyers interested in participating in the project. The survey results will be used in conjunction with the results of scholarly and trade research to create model clauses and best practice standards. Findings will include data regarding emerging industry standards, regional trends, and common perceptions about the use of these clauses.

At the start of the 21st Century, corporations continue to navigate and evolve the relationship between their general Corporate Social Responsibility Policies with their day-to-day international business practices. A strong understanding of this relationship is of increasing importance in the modern market, as it will serve to shield a company from potential liabilities, generate positive public relations and may even have the potential to increase efficiency. Pace Law's Institute of International Commercial Law welcomes this collaboration with IACCM to contribute knowledge in this currently evolving and important area of law.
